The African Forum for Innovative Teachers (AFFiT) has inducted CC Tijani Ilyasu of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) as an Executive Ambassadorial Fellow of AFFiT, in recognition of his professional service, leadership and commitment to initiatives that contribute to safer and more responsible communities.

The induction ceremony was held on Thursday, 24 September 2026, at the FCT Command Headquarters of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Abuja, during a professional engagement between the AFFiT leadership and the FCT Command.

Beyond the formal induction, the engagement provided an opportunity for the Director-General of AFFiT and CC Tijani Ilyasu to discuss practical ways through which innovation, education and strategic collaboration can contribute to addressing some of the road safety challenges confronting the Federal Capital Territory.

AFFiT, FRSC Discuss Innovation and Road Safety Challenges

During the meeting, discussions focused on some of the emerging challenges affecting road safety in the FCT, including rough and reckless driving, irresponsible road behaviour and the use of substances by some drivers before taking to the road.

The discussions highlighted the need to move beyond conventional road safety campaigns and explore innovative approaches that can influence driver behaviour, strengthen public awareness and promote greater responsibility among road users.

The AFFiT Director-General and the FRSC Command also discussed the importance of engaging different stakeholders in developing practical solutions to these challenges. Particular attention was given to the role of education, public enlightenment, behavioural change initiatives and partnerships with relevant transport-sector organisations.

Strengthening Engagement with Transport Unions

CC Tijani Ilyasu also highlighted the importance of continued engagement with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in addressing challenges associated with commercial drivers and road transportation.

According to the discussion, stronger collaboration with transport unions can provide an important platform for reaching drivers directly, improving awareness, encouraging responsible driving practices and addressing some of the recurring issues and menaces associated with road transportation.

Such stakeholder engagement can also create opportunities for targeted education and capacity-building programmes for drivers, particularly on responsible driving, road safety, substance-related risks and compliance with established road safety standards.

The induction of CC Tijani Ilyasu as an Executive Ambassadorial Fellow of AFFiT is part of the Forum’s broader effort to build a network of distinguished professionals, public servants, institutional leaders and experts who can contribute their knowledge and experience to initiatives that advance education, leadership, innovation and human capital development.

AFFiT’s Executive Ambassadorial Fellowship provides a platform for distinguished professionals to engage with the Forum’s programmes and contribute to conversations and initiatives that address contemporary challenges across different sectors of society.

The engagement with the FRSC demonstrates the practical dimension of this vision, bringing together the education and professional sectors to examine how knowledge, innovation and strategic partnerships can be applied to real-world societal challenges.

A Shared Commitment to Safer Communities

The meeting concluded with a shared recognition of the importance of sustained collaboration among government institutions, professional bodies, educational organisations, transport stakeholders and the wider public in addressing road safety challenges.

AFFiT looks forward to building on the engagement with the FRSC and exploring opportunities for innovative educational and professional initiatives that can support safer roads and more responsible road-user behaviour.

The Forum warmly congratulates CC Tijani Ilyasu on his induction as an Executive Ambassadorial Fellow and welcomes him into the growing network of AFFiT Fellows committed to advancing innovation, leadership, education and sustainable development.
