Abuja, Nigeria — October 22, 2025 —
The African Forum for Innovative Teachers (AFFiT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Association of Nigerian Colleges of Education Students (NANCES) to deepen collaboration in teacher education, student capacity building, leadership development, and entrepreneurship training across Colleges of Education in Nigeria.
The strategic partnership is designed to prepare student teachers with the skills, mindset, and professional competence required to thrive in a rapidly evolving education system.
Strengthening Teacher Education at the Student Level
The AFFiT–NANCES MoU represents a critical step toward strengthening Nigeria’s teacher education ecosystem by targeting educators at the foundational stage of their careers.
Through the partnership, both organizations will jointly implement structured programmes focused on:
Leadership and civic development for education students
Entrepreneurship and employability skills
Innovation-driven teacher training initiatives
Mentorship and professional growth programmes
These initiatives aim to produce confident, adaptable, and future-ready teachers capable of driving change within classrooms and communities.
Building on National Education Partnerships
The collaboration with NANCES is an extension of AFFiT’s broader national education reform agenda, following earlier Memoranda of Understanding signed with the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) and the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU).
Together, these partnerships reinforce a shared national commitment to improving teacher quality, strengthening institutional development, and promoting sustainable education reform across Nigeria.
Promoting Innovation, Leadership, and Employability
By integrating leadership training, entrepreneurship education, and innovation-focused learning, the AFFiT–NANCES partnership seeks to reposition Colleges of Education students as solution-oriented educators equipped for 21st-century demands.
The collaboration emphasizes experiential learning, digital skills development, and value-based leadership — key components required for effective teaching and long-term national development.
Shaping the Future of Education in Nigeria
AFFiT reaffirmed that meaningful education reform begins with empowering future teachers early, equipping them with knowledge, confidence, and leadership capacity.
Through this MoU, AFFiT and NANCES are building a future where every teacher is prepared to lead, every classroom encourages innovation, and teacher education becomes a driver of national transformation.
